AION Classic 5.0 enchanting guide

Update 5.0 rewrites the rules for enchanting equipment in AION Classic Europe. Failure no longer costs most players anything, the level-based stones are gone and extraction is removed. This guide lists each rule, what happens to the stones you already hold and how upgrades treat enchanted gear.

The new rules at a glance

  • Enchanting equipment of fabled quality or lower always succeeds.
  • Eternal equipment keeps its enchantment level when an attempt fails. The old penalty of losing one level and resetting is removed.
  • A failed attempt stores part of the success chance you used. A retry within the same enchantment range adds the stored chance.
  • One Enchantment Stone replaces the stones tied to an enchantment level.
  • Equipment extraction is removed.

Success chance and the stored chance

Up to and including fabled quality the chance is 100 percent, so those pieces reach any level without a failed attempt. Above fabled, each enchantment level has a base success chance, and the base chances changed with this update.

When an attempt fails, part of the chance you used is stored. On the next attempt within the same enchantment range the stored amount is added to the success chance, so a run of failures raises the odds of the following attempt. On eternal equipment the failure itself costs nothing: the piece stays at its level and only the stored chance grows.

Arcamant items follow the same rules, and the Arcamant Enhancer is still required.

Enchantment Stones

Enchanting uses one type of Enchantment Stone. The number you need depends on the rank of the item and the enchantment level, and each attempt also costs Kinah.

Extraction is removed

Equipment extraction no longer exists. NPCs have stopped selling extraction tools and the tools cannot be used. Tools you hold can be sold back for the Kinah price you paid. To get Enchantment Stones out of a piece of equipment, dismantle it at Siel's Hammer.

Combat Talent and two weapons

  • The Combat Talent bonus per enchantment level changed, and enchantment levels 7 to 14 now give more points.
  • With two one-handed weapons, the physical attack and Magic Boost gained by enchanting the left weapon apply to the right weapon at 100 percent, and the godstone chance penalty on the left weapon is gone.
  • The socketing success rate for normal and rare manastones is 100 percent, and those manastones can be returned.

Upgrading enchanted gear

Upgrades now keep more of what you invested.

  • A +15 armour piece keeps its manastones when it is upgraded. The +13 and +14 Elite Commodore Armour and Aeon Temple Guard's Armour keep their enhanced manastones too.
  • A +15 Forsaken weapon can be upgraded to a Derelict weapon, and a +15 Battle-Scarred weapon or shield to Battle-Seasoned. Success gives a +10 piece that keeps its manastones and godstones.
  • If a weapon upgrade fails, only the extra materials are lost. The +15 piece keeps its enchantment level, manastones, godstones and skills, but equipment set settings and appearance changes are not kept.

Dragon Beryl is a new item made with an Arcamant of enchantment level 7 or higher and Flaming Transcendence, which is crafted at Siel's Anvil. Ascension keeps the enchantment level and the beryl keeps being enchanted the same way, but any chance stored from earlier failures resets.

Common questions

Can enchanting still fail? Yes, above fabled quality. Fabled equipment and lower always succeeds.

What happens to my old Enchantment Stones? They stay in your bag and dismantle at Siel's Hammer into the new stones and fragments.

Can I still extract an enchantment from a piece of equipment? No. Dismantle the piece at Siel's Hammer to receive Enchantment Stones instead.

Does a failed attempt on eternal equipment lower its level? No. The piece keeps its level and the stored chance carries into the next attempt in the same range.
