Fortune favours the bold, they say, and if you are indeed--

Oh, sorry, sorry, I'll drop that florid stuff, shall I?

• "Please do."

I didn't mean to give you my bog-standard patter; I know you have a better daru-dung meter than most who come through here.

I do have a genuine offer, though. Most people want a bit of showmanship to go with it, but in truth it's simple enough.

You give me a token of one of your successes, and I'll make sure fortune smiles on you soon. Sound good?

• Accept.
• Decline.

Not just any token, though. It has to be a Crucible Mark you get from surviving the second stage of the Crucible Challenge.

Just one tiny little mark. Might not look like much, but the most powerful charms rely on the simplest of foci.

• "I think I got one already."

Take a Crucible Mark to Kjander.

You're back! And not a moment too soon.

Show me the mark. Hurry up!

• "Calm down, why don't you!"

No, that's not it at all! They'll never buy--um, I mean, it really has to be the Crucible Mark I sent you for, or the incantation won't work

I have to move on quite soon, so if you want to take this opportunity you must hurry.

• "Fair enough."

Faded! Blast it, you can hardly read the symbol!

Oh, yes, Daeva. You're still here, aren't you? I suppose I can use this, but it's not ideal. Please don't expect the best results.

Kjander, a suspicious young man, told you that he could influence your destiny for the better if you brought him a Crucible Mark from the Crucible Challenge.

He took the mark and gave you a reward, but you got the feeling that there was something he wasn't telling you.
