Find out why Bhulrasan’s residents haven’t left the village.

Along the way

Stranger, the spirits appearing here make the village a dangerous place.

I’ve never seen you here, nor anywhere else that I know of.

If you don’t have anywhere to stay, you can take refuge with me for a few days and continue your journey when it’s light.

  • ‘Why aren’t you leaving the village?’

(Smiles softly.) My ancestors founded this village.

My ancestors were loyal allies to the Bhulra, and he protected them in his infinite righteousness. They were also the lantern bearers who led the Bhulra’s descendants on the right path. Hence this village has its own significance.

On the day the village was founded and people began moving here, Bhulra gave my ancestors a fan as a token of eternal friendship so that his righteous fervour would live on.

Ever since that day, my ancestors have been protecting this place from generation to generation.

How could I leave the village?

  • You end the conversation.

You look so foreign. Where do you come from?

The spirits roam even on moonlit nights, so come and get some rest.

  • ‘Why aren’t you leaving the village?’

What nonsense are you spouting?

I’m Sundeok, and I make a fantastic buckwheat jelly. Even the divines of Bhulrasan, who never eat by the way, would have loved my buckwheat jelly.

And if my buckwheat jelly were to be the only offering at the ancestral ritual, they would relish it to the full.

It is my belief that the simple and friendly gods will return as soon as the curse is lifted. Until then, I’m going to protect my home and make buckwheat jelly.

Stranger, does that answer your question?

  • You end the conversation.

The days are getting colder.

I have nothing and can’t help you, but you can escape the evening dew with me.

Get some rest on this dark night.

  • ‘Why aren’t you leaving the village?’

I’m promised to someone.

She was already engaged, but we loved each other so much that we couldn’t let each other go.

So we were going to meet at Yeoul River in the dead of a moonless night and run away together, but… she didn’t come, even though I waited there for days. I haven’t heard from her since.

I stayed because I still have hope. We just missed each other, that’s all; she’ll come back to the village.

Maybe… she’ll come back when the flowers are in bloom again.

  • You end the conversation.

Guest from the other world, did you meet with the inhabitants of Wraithford?

Why aren’t they leaving the village?

  • You relay what you have learned.

Reward

I see. They’ve got their own reasons.

We must return things to the way they were as quickly as possible for them, so everyone can lead a peaceful life without fear.

Thank you so much.

Completion

Imoog asked you to make enquiries with the people remaining in the village despite the Curse of Bhulrasan about why they stayed.

You met with the scholar Hwaseon, the buckwheat jelly master Sundeok and Makdong in Wraithford to ask about their reasons for staying.

You returned to Imoog and told him what you had learnt. He could understand their motives and vowed to maintain peace for them.
