Story

The offer

A companion names the location of the Balaur who have arrived.

It appears the Balaur possessed a map that symbolised the four sacred cardinal directions.

I once wrote a research report on the Balaur’s concept of direction; now I remember it.

  • You keep listening.

So, would you like to take a look at the section I described?

(He hands over the map) Could you please check whether this concept is correct and whether my explanation is accurate in the relevant parts?

If I’m not mistaken, Sulinia knows this better than I do.

After you have checked the map, please hand it to Sulinia.

  • You end the conversation.

Journal

Objective: Speak with Pilomenes and Sulinia about their Balaur research and investigate the changes in the Balaur power structure.

Along the way

Hm, you’re Daeva, aren’t you?

Pilomenes said he had discovered something important and sent it to you...

  • There’s a map of the Balaur hanging there.

Pilomenes said there was something interesting on it.

Indeed...

Pilomenes’ interpretation is rather interesting. ‘In the Conqueror's Ravine there are four directions’...

  • You keep listening.

Apparently the Balaur determined the cardinal directions by the regions where the graves of the ancient dragons lay. That seems like a very location-based way of thinking, however...

It’s unusual that all four directions are still intact. Of course, you’ll have to check on-site whether they all actually still exist.

Would you collect the direction symbols and bring them to me instead?

If you visit Eastern Star, Western Star, Southern Star and Northern Star, you can find a symbol for each corresponding direction.

  • You end the conversation.

I’ve been waiting for you.

Have you fully searched the Conqueror’s Ravine for Eastern Star, Western Star, Southern Star and Northern Star?

Were all four present as marked on the map?

  • Turn in the Balaur symbol.

Hm... Where did this come from? The four direction symbols don’t appear to be from Tiamat, but from another dragon species. They seem related to the tools and devices used in their manufacture.

Although Inggison belongs to Tiamat’s sphere of influence... their presence there doesn’t seem to pose a major problem.

That is very interesting... We’ll only discover more details through further investigation.

  • You keep listening.

If you want to know more... it’s best to ask the Balaur directly.

In fact, I have constructed equipment that lets you disguise yourself as a Balaur, but I haven’t been able to test it yet.

If you put this on and speak directly with the Balaur, the experiment should succeed and research into the Balaur faction should progress well.

  • You keep listening.

According to my information, a being named Warden Angasa appears in Conqueror’s Ravine.

Go to the Angasa Sighting Area and secure the Balaur equipment I mentioned there.

If you like, I can guide you to Conqueror’s Ravine.

Are you ready?

  • I’m not ready yet.
  • Please take me to Conqueror’s Ravine.

Haah, what’s the matter? Get out of my way, or I’ll be killed.

I haven’t slept for days ‘cause someone needs to guard the prisoners.

I could really do with a nap, but because of those damn Daevas, we’re so short on numbers no one can relieve me of duty. At this rate, who knows how much longer this war will last.

  • How have things been lately? It’s been pretty exhausting.

Well, you probably know already, but it’s true that Tiamat’s influence hasn’t been as strong recently as it once was.

(quietly) That’s why offers from scouts have been coming in here and there.

Are you interested as well?

  • You nod.

Well then... (looks around) Here, take this.

This is a report that analyses Tiamat’s power and its contacts. Please organise it for me.

This is top secret and of the highest level. Take good care of it!

  • You keep listening.

Think carefully about which side you will take.

Me? Hmm... I think Meslamtaeda might make a better Dragon Lord than Tiamat.

I’ll just go wherever I’m called.

That’s between you and me! Keep your mouth shut!

  • You end the conversation.

So, have you ever seen Warden Angasa?

Wasn’t I identified by the equipment of the Balaur I’m responsible for?

  • It seems the Balaur have created or issued a special suppression document.

You completed the mission!

Without being discovered, you spoke with the Balaur and also obtained the secret document from him... That is a tremendous success!

We cannot be the only ones who know about this matter.

Report to Agent Outremus immediately! Hurry! Quickly!

  • You end the conversation.

In the meantime, a problem seems to have arisen.

Was Inggison a place where people could settle?

  • I’m reporting events that haven’t happened before.

Reward

Hmm, the tale was a bit long, so it was hard to follow, but...

That Tiamat’s influence is waning and the Balaur are currying favour with other Dragon Lords is very surprising.

We must continue to pursue Tiamat for now, but I still remember the information I received quite well.

This is an excellent discovery.

I hope you will continue to stand up for the Elyos.

Completion

You found an old map and brought it to the Balaur expert Sulinia, from whom you learned it shows four directional symbols of a Balaur village, even though you didn’t know what that meant. She told you to bring her the symbols.

When you handed over the symbol and Sulinia examined it closely, she said there were signs of changes in Balaur power and suggested investigating the situation directly among the Balaur.

After Sulinia donned suitable Balaur equipment and set up a Balaur guard formation, she determined that Tiamat’s power appears to be waning.

She passed this information to an intermediary and also instructed him to scout the area and conduct investigations.
