Story

The offer

Oh, Daeva.

Do you have a moment?

If it’s all right with you, I’d like to entrust you with a task: I want you to locate some people.

  • You keep listening.

It is said that two Daevas did not return from a failed operation.

Find them and tell them to return as soon as possible.

This won’t be a pleasant task. Neither Carabel nor Ethys are ‘ordinary’ people.

If you’re ready, set out at once.

  • You end the conversation.

Journal

Note: Find the Daevas who did not obey Valetta’s order to return to duty.

Along the way

Are there any other Daevas in such a remote place besides me and Ethys?

Have you come to investigate the Sunken Canyon as well?

Are you by any chance interested in minerals?

  • You say you came on Valetta’s orders.

No! I’m not ready to return to the fortress yet.

Back off! The glitterlings are mine! All mine! Only Carabel’s! Yesss...

Oh, Daeva. What did I just say? No idea what’s wrong with me... I think I’ve spent too much time underground.

I’m here in the Sunken Canyon searching for rare minerals.

Well, if someone helped me, returning might go a little faster...

  • You keep listening.

There are a few large deposits of Antimoni deep below, which is great. Antimoni is a rare mineral.

I found this flawless Antimoni here recently.

It gives off a slightly eerie light, but I still find it charming. It’s somehow... grown on me.

Some Antimoni Ore would be enough... Oh, no!

If you bring me some, I can return to the fortress without delay.

  • You end the conversation.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think my pupils have dilated... but that must be from spending so long in the dark.

Somehow I’m strangely fascinated by underground lakes... I never used to be.

You have the Antimoni Ore with you, I hope?

  • Here’s the ore.

Hm, there are several rawstones here; that’ll keep me busy.

One could be made into an accessory, another processed into a serum or potion in alchemy, and the rest could be kept as collector’s items.

So, I’ll extract a little more from the Antimoni Ore... No, otherwise I’d lose myself completely in research.

  • The conversation isn’t over yet.

You have many more people besides me, don’t you?

I’ll tell you where Ethys can be found, so deal with her first.

She will be in a place she won’t leave. If you take a Mookie with you and keep it near you, it will be easier to find her.

Ah, if you’re going to Ethys anyway, please give her this sack too. It contains minerals used to make a plant-growth elixir; she’ll know what to do with them.

  • You end the conversation.

What can I do for you?

Do you have any questions about the plants in Gelkmaros?

(Being careful near the cliff) Moobong, wait a moment. Mama will be carried up by a geyser!

Would you like to know something about Balaurea’s vegetation? I’ve discovered many interesting things about the flora of this area.

  • ‘Geyser?’

There are many updraft zones in Balaurea, so you can find geysers everywhere. A strong air current shoots out from these streams; if you use it, you can be carried a long distance in one go.

When you notice your body has been carried very high, spread your wings and glide to the spot you want.

Sometimes wild beasts guard a geyser; if you defeat them, you can use the current immediately.

Some geysers emit hot air. In such cases: don’t panic, just spread your wings and use the updraft, just as when gliding.

If you know the basics about them, you can make good use of geysers. There are many geysers in Gelkmaros. If you use them purposefully, they’ll be very helpful.

  • ‘Have you ever used a geyser?’

(Embarrassed) Oh no, you see... knowing what it is and using it are two different things...

Actually I tried to use a geyser recently to escape the area, but I failed and fell down here. Since then I’ve been wandering about, while my companion Mookie remained up there.

For some time now I’ve been hearing a splashing sound, but I can’t get to it...

Daba, if you don’t mind: could you climb the geyser in front of you and thereby make Moobong a little calmer?

  • You end the conversation.

(Trembling with fear, it raises its quills.)

Dap, dap, dap!

  • Calm it by telling Ethys’ story.

(tilting its head) Dapu?

Dap, dap, dap! Dapu dap!

(shivering all over) Dapu, dappi, dap...

  • You watch the Mookie closely.

Dapong, swa-swa, dapdap-swa.

Swa-swa, dap, swai-swa...

(Looking into its eyes, it seems to fear the nearby Hungry Manticores.)

(As long as Ethys is still working to apply the remedy, the danger remains. Even if Ethys is safe, we should take care of the Manticores.)

  • You end the conversation.

Oh, Daeva, you’ve come!

I didn’t know you’d arrived so gracefully on the geyser. Did you come through the attack unscathed?

Was our Mookie alright?

  • You keep listening.

I’m very grateful that you even dealt with the Manticores, because our Mookie might have been frightened.

In the meantime I have also been practising diligently.

If I try even harder, I’ll be able to ride the geyser.

Once I see Mookie, I’ll return. Please tell Vetus that.

  • You end the conversation.

Ha...

Neither the pale-faced Carabel nor Ethys appear. How on earth can that be explained...

  • I will relay their story.

Reward

Sorry, what?

Carabel is obsessed with the Antimoni deposits, and Ethys couldn’t fly on the geyser, so she is stuck in the canyon?

Ha, that’s really annoying.

Thank you very much for bringing me the message.

Completion

Valetta said two Daevas who went into the Sunken Canyon did not return and asked that they be found.

When I met Carabel, the Daeva of Minerals, she said she would return if she was given the Antimoni Ore, so I brought her some.

But after Carabel received the ore, she said she wanted to continue researching a little longer and then leave; in return she would reveal Ethys’ location.

I sought out the Ethys, the Daeva of Plants, which led to a confrontation with Mookies, after which I calmed the Mookies and was asked to keep helping.

After I defeated the stubborn Mookies and other foes in the area, I returned to Ethys. She said she wanted to continue researching and then escape via the geyser. She asked me to report to Vetus.

When I met Vetus, he sighed and lamented that he was having a hard time with the two hardheaded Daevas.
