Understanding of Language and Flight is an Asmodian quest in AION Classic 5.0. Complete Of War and Divine Power first. It rewards 15,037 experience and [Supply] Greater Raging Wind Scroll ×3.

Story

The offer

Once you have become strong as a Daeva, the rest of your life is only training and effort.

Combat is important, but abilities beyond that are also required.

How about it? Would you like to undergo further training?

  • You keep listening.

The question is, what does a Daeva need besides combat skills?

For example, it might look like this.

If you are sent in undercover to steal a war plan, you need the ability to discern which things are important.

If you become stranded somewhere, you’ll also need the ability to find a way out.

  • You keep listening.

Journal

Objective: Complete the training as a recruit.

Along the way

Do you now understand a little why you should also train outside of combat?

If you understand, I’ll introduce you to someone who can help with your training.

Go to the Temple of Knowledge and meet the scholar Cavalorn once. He will help you.

  • You end the conversation.

Hm, you are unknown to me so far.

It seems you came here out of an interest in books; why exactly, I’ll ask later.

  • You say you have come to receive combat training.

Ah, so you’ve come to receive training in scouting and espionage.

I do not yet know Daeva well, but not only in Atreia, there are different factions in Balaurea as well.

Krall, Mau, Kobold and Skurv, as well as Shugo, Shulack and even Drakan...

At the centre are Shugo and Shulack, who broadly use Atreian, but there are races that do not.

If you understand their language, it will help you find information about operations or tactics.

  • You keep listening.

You should especially be familiar with Krall, Mau and the Balaur. Learning alone, however, takes too long and can be tedious. That is why experts wait to assist you in training.

First, the Krall language... If you’re interested, meet the scholar Phosphor.

Ah, for Daevas specialised in combat, this training can be very strenuous.

There is no drawback if you skip it, but if you complete the training conscientiously you will receive a small reward; so decide carefully.

For those who do not want to learn, training is like torture...

  • You would suffer from language confusion.
  • You would prefer to get rid of the language confusion.

Do you want to learn the foreign language?

I don’t know exactly, but this language is an innate tongue of the Sapiens.

Like other Sapiens, their body structure differs from that of humans or Daeva. Their speech and hearing organs are built differently, so the language is inevitably different.

  • You keep listening.

Krall, like us humans and Daeva, use Atreia as the basis of their language.

However, their pronunciation is rougher than ours, and their sentences, like their gestures and behaviours, are rather simple.

It is also noticeable that they often use onomatopoeic expressions like ‘Grrr!’ or animal noises.

(After explaining passionately) You’re not asleep now, are you?

  • He shakes his head and says no.

(With a doubtful look) Hmm... Admittedly I’ve studied the language my whole life, but a Daeva will surely place more importance on combat, well.

I didn’t particularly want to use this method, but it suits a Daeva better. As it seems, you at least don’t have an empty stomach.

Now, please close your eyes.

With my method I will at least make you a little familiar with this language.

  • You close your eyes.

(Concentrating and murmuring a spell) There, finished!

But that’s only a simple spell, I can’t instantly transfer all Mau-words (or the entire vocabulary) completely.

However, if you repeatedly have contact with the Mau and frequently communicate with them, it will certainly become much easier.

Now, next you’ll learn the Mau language. Meet the historian Moreinen once! He will help you.

  • You end the conversation.

Ah, you... your face looks very familiar to me.

Hm, or am I just imagining it? Don’t take it amiss, I’ve seen many people in many places.

By the way, what brings you to me?

  • Ah, you’ve come to follow up a lead.

Ah, you’ve come to learn Mau.

The Mau are one of the Sapiens subraces who fight the Balaur. If you master their language, you can interrogate them or gain them as allies, but they tend to be distrustful.

Like the Krall, the Mau also use Atreia as a lingua franca. However, they are somewhat less intellectual than the Krall, but often more varied in expression.

At the end of sentences they often add a ‘krak!’-like howl or growling noises... Are you listening to me?

  • (He squints and turns his head.)

Hmm, would you like to take more lessons then?

Or would you rather try to influence the Mau with magic?

If you think lessons are better, then let’s begin together with when the Mau originated.

If you want to learn, come closer; if you want to learn the language magically, close your eyes.

  • (He blinks.)

(Giggling) That’s really fascinating.

(Concentrating, murmuring a spell) There, it’s done.

This is just a basic magical method to learn the Mau; you will still find it hard to understand at first, but if you hear it often, it will eventually click for you.

Right, then it seems the Mau armour is damaged.

When it comes to names, Hnoss is the most suitable. Seek him out.

  • You end the conversation.

Ignorance breeds fear.

The reason many humans and Daevas fear the Balaur is because they don’t understand them well.

If one understands their behaviour and language, one can shed that vague fear and perhaps achieve something on a higher level.

  • It is said that traces of the Balaur language have been found.

The Balaur language traces its origins to the ancient language of Atreia.

What we use now is a language based on Atreia’s ancient tongue, adapted for the Asmodians; the Balaur language is, how shall I say, closer to the more archaic speech...

Therefore, upon seeing the Balaur one might think their language is rougher and simpler, but that’s not true. In some respects they even use more sophisticated and ornate expressions than our Elyos tongue.

Hm? Do you mean that you’re thinking of them right now?

  • Not particularly.

(softly sighing) Well, in a time when we’re both busy, that kind of thing might be useful, wouldn’t it?

You’ve learned other languages in a similar way anyway...

Come here and close your eyes. I’ll show you a method by which you can evoke the Balaur language.

  • You close your eyes.

(Concentrating and murmuring a spell) There, it’s done now.

Since it’s an elemental magic, I’m not sure whether it’s truly effective.

Still, if you encounter the Balaur more often, you’ll be able to understand their language gradually.

So, as shown in the picture, you will now encounter Cavalorn.

I must now attend to my task as well.

  • You end the conversation.

Hm? You arrived sooner than I expected.

Is the investigation progressing well, step by step?

Learning quickly and a lot is good, but it’s best to develop skills from the ground up.

  • You keep listening.

What can be said about that is all the more true.

One is not sated by a single spoonful of rice. If you consistently interact, communicate and cooperate with other groups, you might even be able to understand their language without outside help.

In that sense, training will not solve all problems immediately; rather, it’s a steady, ongoing measure.

  • You keep listening.

Well, next the flight training should be ready.

It would be nice if this training were a bit more entertaining than it is now.

There will be an instructor Lindhelm at Pandaemonium Plaza. Meet him and complete the flight training.

  • You end the conversation.

It seems it hasn’t been long since he started that.

Do you know what the biggest difference between humans and Daeva is?

Namely, that you can ride the Aether in the air and fly freely.

However, nowadays throughout Atreia it is different than before the Great Cataclysm, when Aether was still plentiful; therefore many Daeva can no longer fly well today, which is regrettable.

That’s why the flight training takes place, so that you won’t get into trouble if you actually need to fly.

  • So, what must I do?

The training is quite simple.

If you look above Pandaemonium, you’ll see a large ring hovering in the air.

There are four rings in total, each slightly different.

The flight test consists of flying through all four rings and returning within the time limit.

  • You keep listening.

If time runs out, the training is considered failed. Pay close attention to the time!

Above the airspace of Pandaemonium there is a ring in which the number of stars increases from 1 to 4; you must pass through all in order and return to me for the trial to be completed.

You can start flying with the hotkey PageUp. While in this state, press R to ascend, F to descend and PageDown to land.

For your information: you can skip this flight permit.

If you skip it, there are no disadvantages; however, if you accept the permit, you will receive a small reward. Think it over and then decide.

If you accept the permission, we will start straight away. Think carefully and decide.

  • I accept the flight permit.
  • I skip the flight permit.

Hm! It seems you’ve done a lot of flight practice.

With that confidence you’ll be able to hold your own in Balaurea.

So, the entire training is over. Go to Kvasir and report to him that you have completed the training.

  • You end the conversation.

Ah, Daeva, after you completed all the training your expression has changed a little.

You don’t see recruits like that very often anymore. Whether that’s good or bad... that will depend on you in future, won’t it?

For now I will do you a favour.

Good, then now meet the supreme commander Vidar.

  • You end the conversation.

It’s been a while, Daeva.

In the meantime, have you completed various training sessions at the temple?

How was the training? Was it worthwhile?

  • You say it wasn’t especially difficult.

Reward

It’s good that you’re confident! However, it would be wise to further hone your skills a little.

Anyway, you started out as a recruit and have now become a respectable Daeva. If you continue like this, you’ll be able to support our ranks.

Welcome as a Daeva to Pandaemonium headquarters.

Completion

Kvasir said that to operate in Balaurea one needs not only physical strength and fighting skill, but also additional abilities.

To foster the ability to detect and observe enemies, we had the students in the Temple of Knowledge learn various skills, including basic mechanics, language and equipment knowledge.

We then improved the Daeva’s actual combat abilities through flight training.

After the training was completed, I went to Kvasir. He praised that a Daeva had been so well trained in such a short time.

Afterwards I reported to Pandaemonium HQ and became a respected Daeva of the Pandaemonium.
